September - October

Welcome!  How exciting!  A new year begins.  It's a year of tremendous growth, physically and academically.  I'm looking forward to working with the students.

Our reading program is Companion Reading.  It is a phonics program.  After a few weeks of review and format lessons we will be learning new words and sounds every week.  This program requires practice, at home, too.  We are partners in your child's learning.  As the year progresses, we will, also, be reading in the Macmillan Basal Reading Series.

Our math program is Saxon Math.  This is an excellent hands-on math series.  It stresses strategies, math facts, reasoning, and basic math concepts.  We work, in school, and you will work with your child, at home.  This daily reinforcement in an important component of the program.

In Religion we will be learning about our beliefs, God's love, God our Creator, Mary the Mother of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  We will be going to weekly Mass with our seventh grade "guardian angels."

In Science we will be learning the characteristics of the animal groups ... mammals, birds, fish, insects, reptiles.

In Social we are working on the Bus Safety Unit and will be learning about map skills and where we live ... neighborhood, community, state, and country.
