News to Know:
The month of April has come
and gone so quickly. It doesn’t feel
right just knowing that there is less than one month of school left. With all the field trips that are planned and
extra little additions into our weekly plans, the end of May will be here
faster than we know it. So with that in
mind, we are going to take one day at a time and enjoy each and every minute of
it!!!!
No
School May 7th: This is
just a reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 7th as it
will be a staff in-service day.
Nice Weather:
The nice weather has made it at times feel as if summer has
arrived. The children may have begged to
play outdoors longer. With having less
than a month of school left it is important that the students continue to give
us their all until the end. Shutting down now will affect their grades
greatly. Homework is still each child’s
responsibility. Please know that if a
child is missing and/or not completing work which is affecting his/her grades,
the teacher has the right to have the student(s) stay behind when the class
partakes in their special outings this month (parents will be contacted prior
to the event to hopefully prevent this from happening). This nice weather makes all of us a little
antsy but we all have to keep giving it our best until the end.
Morning
Arrival:
Please keep in mind that the teaching staff is not required to be on the
school campus until 7:45 AM. From 7:45 –
8:00 AM staff is able to use this time to fine tune those last minute
activities for the day. For your child’s
safety students should not arrive to school before 8:00 AM. At this time the teachers will be in their
room and direct supervision can take place.
Thank you for understanding and for your attention to this matter.
Open
House Reception: The Education Committee will be hosting an
open house reception for Mrs. Julie Seidl after the
10:30 am Mass this Sunday, May 6th.
Mrs. Seidl is retiring from teaching at the
end of this school year. Everyone is
invited to this open house and thank her for all the
years and countless hours she has given teaching at St. Mary’s School.
5th
and 6th Grade Band Concert: The 5th & 6th grade
band concert will take place on May 18th at 1:00 PM in the Bird
Island campus gym. All are welcome to
come and enjoy the sweet sound of music.
Keep
Saving: Thank you so much to all who
keep saving milk caps, ink cartridges, boxtops,
Campbell’s labels, etc….. the funds that we are able
to receive from these items are awesome.
With the funds we are able to purchase many supplies for the school and
classrooms at no expense to the school.
So please keep saving …… it’s a great deal!!!!!! Thank you!
Can Recycling: On Thursday,
May 17th we will be having a can recycling pick up. Please feel free to drop off any aluminum
cans or any scrap aluminum for recycling in the container in the church parking
lot.
GRADUATION: On Wednesday, May 30, 2012 our 8th
graders will be graduating from St. Mary’s.
The ceremony will begin at 7:00 PM and will be held at the St. Mary’s
Church. A social will take place after
the ceremony in the church hall. I would
like to open this invitation to all – please feel free to come and celebrate
with us another successful class completing their years at St. Mary’s School. Also the 8th graders last day of
school will be Wednesday, May 30th with dismissal at 11:20 am.
Last Student Day: Thursday, May 31, 2012 will be the last student day for all
K-7th grade students. Summer
vacation will officially begin at 2:55 PM.
Summer Projects: Over the summer months besides the regular
school cleaning, touching up with paint, and a few other odds and ins ….. The following
moves and/or projects
will take place….
·
Play Island will
locate into the 4th grade room
·
4th
grade will move to the music room
·
The music room
will move to the 6th grade room
·
6th
grade will move to the technology rooms (3/4’s space of the two rooms)
·
Advanced math
will move to the remaining 1/4 portion of the technology room
·
Some painting
will take place in the gym along with new mats on the wall areas and permanent
retractable basketball hoop ( Thank you to some very generous donators)
·
Roof repair to
the north side of the school
If
you or someone you know would be interested in helping paint some areas in the
gym, please let Mrs. Smith know. I am
thinking we would attack this task in early June.
During these next few weeks as field
work continues and travel takes place, we pray for your safety. And at this time, may I once again thank you
for ALL your support, dedication, and cooperation; I couldn’t do it without
each one of you!
May the Lord bless you and your family!
Mrs. Bertrand
